(Baltimore, Md) - New correction officers in Maryland will be getting a bonus. The secretary of the department announced today that those who complete the correctional officer training academy will receive $2,000.

An additional $3,000 incentive will be granted after the successful completion of their one year probationary period on the job.
The poplar hill pre-release unit in Quantico was recently closed temporarily, with 23 officers transferred to eastern correctional institution in Westover.

Maryland and Delaware have been struggling to hire enough correction officers.
